Information & Culture is committed to excellence in scholarship and welcomes book reviews that contribute to the understanding of the history of information. Below are the guidelines and process for potential reviewers.
What we review
Book reviews help advance conversation among scholars and connect new works to existing research. We welcome reviews of books that:
- Are published within the last 12 months
- Engage with the history of information or related fields
- Represent innovative academic scholarship

Our goal is to reflect the range of experiences and insights that shape the study of information. To achieve this, we value:
- A variety of voices among reviewers and authors
- Broad perspectives in the subjects and approaches of book reviews
How to write a strong review
Book reviews are meant to further the dialogue among a community of information scholars and professionals. A strong review should include:
- A concise summary of the book’s main arguments
- Critical and original analysis from the reviewer
- Clear connections to relevant scholarship or ongoing debates
For prospective reviewers
Submit your CV and writing sample to reviews@ischool.utexas.edu if you’re interested in contributing a review. The editorial team will:
- Review submissions and select reviewers based on expertise
- Pair reviewers with books that match the Journal’s scope
Due to print deadlines and limited space, not all applicants will receive an assignment.
